The legal work of the City Attorney’s Office falls into two main areas:
The Advisory Division, overseen by Chief Assistant City Attorney Ryan Richardson, provides advice and counsel on a broad range of issues to other City of Oakland agencies.
The Litigation Division, overseen by Chief Assistant City Attorney Maria Bee, manages affirmative litigation brought by the Oakland City Attorney’s Office against outside actors, and responds to litigation matters brought against the City of Oakland.
