Laura Lane supervises the City Attorney’s General Public Safety, Rent, and Code Enforcement Team. The team advises the Rent Adjustment Program, Building Code Enforcement, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and other departments on a broad range of legal issues with the goal of making the lives of Oaklanders more healthy, safe, and secure from displacement.
Ms. Lane previously specialized in civil litigation related to housing rights while serving as the Director of the Housing Practice at the East Bay Community Law Center, a non–profit law office and clinical program for Berkeley Law. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Classics from Hunter College in New York, a master’s degree in Comparative Literature from San Francisco State University and her law degree from UC Berkeley. She has taught Fair Housing Litigation Skills at Golden Gate University Law School and Housing Law and Policy at Berkeley Law, University of California, and also authored a chapter on Residential Landlord–Tenant Law in the California Basic Practice Handbook published by CEB.
