Malia McPherson is a Deputy City Attorney in the General Government & Finance Unit. She currently advises many City departments and programs, including the Oakland Public Library, Human Services Department, and the Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Development.
In her tenure with the Office, Ms. McPherson previously handled affirmative litigation in the Community Lawyering & Civil Rights Unit, handling major cases involving climate change, the national opioid crisis, and violations of Oakland’s minimum wage and sick leave ordinance. Ms. McPherson clerked for U.S. District Court Judge James Donato in the Northern District of California.
Ms. McPherson is a graduate of Stanford Law School and received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley
