Seema Rupani is an attorney in the Community Lawyering and Civil Rights unit within the Affirmative Litigation team.Herunitengages inproactivecivil litigationto enforce important local laws andsecure justice for Oakland residents while furtheringracial, economic, and environmental justice.
Prior to joining the City Attorney’s Office, Seemawasan attorney and clinical supervisor at the East Bay Community Law Center’s Community Economic JusticeClinic.There, shetaught law students, provided directlegal services to small businesses, nonprofits, and community groups, and helped craft policy to advancelong–term solutions to the housing crisisin partnership with community coalitions and local government.
Seema grew up in the East Bay and is a graduate of UC Berkeley School of Law, where shewas a leader in theWomen of Color Collective and Coalition for Diversity. Seema was an organizer and researcher,primarilyonenvironmentalhealth andjusticeissues,priorto pursuing a career in law.
