Seema Rupani is an attorney in the Community Lawyering and Civil Rights unit within the Affirmative Litigation team. Her unit engages in proactive civil litigation to enforce important local laws and secure justice for Oakland residents while furthering racial, economic, and environmental justice.
Prior to joining the City Attorney’s Office, Seema was an attorney and clinical supervisor at the East Bay Community Law Center’s Community Economic Justice Clinic. There, she taught law students, provided direct legal services to small businesses, nonprofits, and community groups, and helped craft policy to advance longterm solutions to the housing crisis in partnership with community coalitions and local government.
Seema grew up in the East Bay and is a graduate of UC Berkeley School of Law, where she was a leader in the Women of Color Collective and Coalition for Diversity. Seema was an organizer and researcher, primarily on environmental health and justice issues, prior to pursuing a career in law.
